It is of the utmost importance that practitioners do not prematurely burnout or develop trauma themselves in the process of working in the midst of terrorized people. Supervisors and organizations can learn how to manage practitioners’ stress levels with self-care and other methodologies in order to mitigate vicarious traumatization, secondary traumatic stress and compassion fatigue. This is the work of Greenleaf Integrative Strategies.
Major Mumbai Programs Delivered in January 20091) Times of India Foundation: Symposium "Reporting on Trauma, Disaster and Terrorism: A 360 Degree Approach." Attendees included multiple news agencies, editors, photojournalists and investigative reporters. 2) Bombay Psychiatric Society: All-day seminar "Best Practices in Mental Health for Mass Disaster and Psychosocial Trauma." (This was done in partnership with my colleague Dr. Grant Brenner and Disaster Psychiatry Outreach, a U.S. non-profit). CHAIRPERSON: Dr. Anjali Chhabria. 3) Tata Institute for Social Sciences: Two day workshop "Crisis Counseling, Psychosocial First Aid and Vicarious Trauma Self-Care for Disaster Situations" with didactics, role plays and Skype virtual classroom.
